Parish Council Announces Updated Rules and Pricing for Slyne Cemetery
26th of March, 2026
Slyne with Hest Parish Council has made a series of updates to both the rules and the pricing structure at Slyne Cemetery, following a recent review aimed at ensuring the site continues to be cared for respectfully, safely, and sustainably.
Review Leads to Updated Pricing
The Council explained that rising costs associated with maintaining and managing the cemetery have made a review essential. To ensure fairness, councillors compared fees with those at two similar local cemeteries, identified as the closest matches in terms of size and operation. The updated charges reflect the average of those fees, helping keep Slyne Cemetery’s pricing transparent and in line with local norms.
Changes to Cemetery Rules for Safety and Maintenance
Alongside the pricing update, the Council has also revised cemetery rules to ensure they reflect current health and safety standards.
In recent years, grounds maintenance has become increasingly challenging due to hazardous items and unauthorised plantings placed on or around graves. These include loose stones, glass bottles, unstable pots, and shrubs or plants installed without permission, all of which can pose risks to staff, contractors, volunteers, and visitors.
The updated rules aim to ensure:
- The cemetery remains safe for all visitors.
- Grounds staff can maintain the site effectively.
- The appearance of the cemetery stays respectful and accessible for families.
A Commitment to Long-Term Care
The Parish Council emphasised its ongoing commitment to preserving the cemetery as a place of deep importance to local families and the wider community. The updates are intended to support the long-term care of the site and maintain its dignity, peace, and safety.
