Improvement Works Begin at the Recreation Ground Entrance on Manor Lane
25th of February, 2026
Essential improvement works are set to begin at the Manor Lane entrance to the Recreation Ground, following repeated damage caused by heavy surface water run‑off.
In recent months, the path leading from Manor Lane into the Recreation Ground has been washed away multiple times. During periods of heavy rainfall, water overtops the drains, rushes down the slope, and scours the surface leaving the path unsafe and unusable.
After seeking professional advice, the Parish Council will:
- Move the entrance slightly to a more suitable position,
- Reinstate a path from Manor Lane, through the woodland
- Landscape the area where the old path was, redirecting the run off
It is hoped that these works will help prevent future path washouts and create a more reliable, route into the Recreation Ground. Whilst flooding in the Rec is expected it is hoped to mitigate the damage caused by surface water runoff.
Safety During the Works
The Manor Lane entrance will be an active construction area for the duration of the project. To keep everyone safe, we kindly ask all users to follow these important guidelines:
- Keep dogs away from the work zone, and ensure they are controlled when nearby.
- Do not distract construction staff they will be operating heavy machinery and tools.
- Please do not climb over or go through fencing or barriers.
- Use the other two entrances on Hanging Green Lane while work is taking place.
Large machinery, equipment, and contractors will be on site, and safety fencing will be in place. We ask all visitors to respect the barriers and signage provided.
Looking Ahead
The improvement works will be carried out as efficiently as possible, though weather conditions may affect progress. When complete, visitors will benefit from a safer entrance, enhanced landscaping, and a woodland path that will better withstand heavy rainfall.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation while we complete these important upgrades. These improvements will help ensure the Recreation Ground can be enjoyed safely by everyone throughout the year.
